Annagassan Beach & Harbour
Annagassan, County Louth

Did you know that Annagassan was once home to one of the first major Viking settlements in Ireland? In the 9th century, Vikings took over the Irish fort of Linns, transforming it into a bustling winter base. In 2011, carbon testing revealed trenches at the site, confirming it as one of only two Viking winter bases ever discovered in Ireland. The other? It became the city of Dublin!
Today, Annagassan is a quiet seaside village with a quaint harbour where the River Glyde meets the sea. It's beach boasts stunning views across Dundalk Bay to the Cooley Peninsula, and further along the Strand Road you will find Salterstown Pier, flanked by a rocky beach.
Walk along Annagassan's breathtaking coastline, where history and nature collide. Imagine the Viking ships landing, the sounds of settlement life, and the stories etched into the very landscape.
